Group Resource Enhancement Protocol 2 (GREP2) Therapy FAQ for Women with Endometriosis

Group therapy episode session

What is GREP2?

GREP2 (Group Resource Enhancement Protocol 2) is an EMDR-based group protocol designed to strengthen emotional resilience. Instead of focusing on past traumatic events, GREP2 helps participants develop and “install” inner resources like calm, self-acceptance, courage, safety, and confidence.

How can GREP2 help me as a patient with endometriosis?

Living with endometriosis can feel overwhelming, unpredictable, and exhausting. GREP2 can help you:

  • Feel more grounded before surgery or medical appointments

  • Strengthen your ability to cope with daily pain and flare-ups

  • Reduce anxiety and helplessness

  • Enhance your sense of control and inner stability

  • Build resilience for long-term health challenges

What happens in a GREP2 session?

During the session, we will start with some grounding exercises, identify the positive beliefs you want to adopt, and then find memories that align with those beliefs. Then we will "install" the positive belief and memories with taping and butterfly hugs. There is an option to share about the experience at each step.

  • Small group setting (online or in-person)

  • Gentle guided exercises using EMDR techniques (like Butterfly Hug, tapping, slow bilateral stimulation)

  • Focus on building up strengths and resources, not re-living trauma

  • Safe and supportive atmosphere with no need to share private details

  • Sessions typically last 90 minutes

Do I have to talk about my trauma?

No. Unlike traditional talk therapy, GREP2 does not require you to describe your experience out loud. You can process your memories quietly, at your own pace, with structured guidance.

Is GREP2 right for me?

GREP2 may be a good fit if you:

  • Have experienced stressful or traumatic medical events

  • Are you preparing for or recovering from surgery

  • Preparing for a medical procedure like a biopsy or IUD insertion

  • Feel anxious, angry, or exhausted from ongoing care

  • Want a supportive, evidence-based approach that doesn’t require re-telling your story

How do I pay for GREP2?

  • Accepted: HSA/FSA cards and some insurance plans

  • Superbills are provided for out-of-network reimbursement

  • Affordable group rate compared to individual therapy

  • Included in Membership price for Endo Kin Collective ($27 monthly, founding member rate is $15 until Jan 31st)

Shakira K. O’Garro, LMHC-D, LPC, LPCC, NCC is a Black woman and a therapist with lived experience of severe stage 4 endometriosis, adenomyosis, and medical trauma. Even with extensive training, Shakira didn’t realize for a long time just how deeply these experiences had impacted her. Because of that, her work centers women like you, Black women who are tired of being excluded from the discourse, dismissed, gaslit, and left to suffer in silence.
